The Physiotherapy department provides physiotherapy services for the Cook Islands. Both inpatients and community services as well.
Physiotherapy comprises any treatment that allows us to improve your well-being, maximise function and pain management according to the pathology and clinical presentation. This includes education of patients’ self-management, carers and staff.
The department consists of 2 staff, a full-time Physiotherapist who also provides Musculoskeletal diagnostic ultrasound scan (Fiji School of Medicine/Rarotonga Hospital) and 1 full-time Te Vaerua staff from NZ.
In collaboration with Te Vaerua, the Physio Rehab team includes a full-time Te Vaerua Occupational therapist and a part-time Rehab Assistance.
The services provided by the department are:
- Community (predominantly Te Vaerua).
- Small Parts (Breast)
- Musculoskeletal ultrasound
- Surgical case
- Trauma eg. MVAs
- Neurological eg. CVA
- Cardio – Respiratory
- Musculoskeletal eg. work related/sports injuries
- Palliative care
