Our Receptionist say “Kia Orana!” to everyone who accesses services for the Ministry of Health at the Rarotonga Hospital and the Pa Enua. Reception staff provide frontline services to all and we strive to ensure we meet your expectation for a friendly, quality service and are grateful for your patience and support. Our department team of receptionists are diverse, full of energy and we pride ourselves on trying to make you feel safe and welcome.
An important part of our responsibilities is to collect payment for consultation which is five dollars ($5.00 NZD) for Cook Islanders, Permanent Residents, and Foreign workers who have lived in the Cook Islands for more than six months consecutively. The consultation fee also includes costs for medications prescribed, tests and x-ray/ultrasound services. For our visiting tourists and short term contractors, the consultation fee is forty dollars ($40.00 NZD) and excludes medication and any other investigations that may be requested by the doctor.
All consultation fees are required to be paid prior to your consultation with the doctor. If you have been admitted, your hospital fees will need to be paid before discharge/leaving the hospital. For more details on fee structure, please see our National Health Services Fee Schedule 2015.
The reception department is also tasked with collecting any outstanding payments that are due and you may be reminded of this when you come to the hospital for a consultation. We would like to give you a friendly reminder that if you have any outstanding fees, please consider payment options with us. We are happy to make these arrangements either by phone or when you see the receptionist at your next visit.
Our reception staff are part of the Ministry’s 24 hour service for acute care and emergencies. We would urge those who do not have urgent need or an emergency, to please consider making an appointment to see the outpatient doctor. Please ring us on number 22664.
We endeavour to ensure appointment times are met. However, because the Outpatient service is also an Emergency service, there can be delays. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience that may be caused because of the delays and ask for your patience and understanding.
