Category Quarantine Order – international arrivals 14 August 2020

Section 12 of the COVID-19 Act 2020

The Secretary of Health issues a category quarantine order, in respect of all persons in the Cook Islands arriving on Air New Zealand flight NZ946 on Friday 14 August 2020 (international arrival) as she believes they pose an undue risk in respect of the possible carriage or transmission of COVID-19.

This order extends to all persons who will be living in a quarantine area of an international arrival.

Quarantine under this order will be SUPERVISED.

For international arrivals:

The quarantine starts the moment you arrive at Rarotonga International Airport and end at 2pm on Friday 28 August 2020.

You must follow the directions of officials until you are at your quarantine area.

Quarantine area of an international arrival:

An international arrival is required to undertake quarantine at a property agreed between the individual and Health Officials. The quarantine area extends out to the property’s boundary.

For international travelers and those living in a quarantine area of an international arrival:

Every person in a quarantine area must:

  1. Not leave the quarantine area for the duration of the quarantine.
  2. Not interfere with the yellow flag identifying the area as a quarantine area.
  3. Cooperate with health officials to undergo health checks.
  4. Follow any further directions given by health officials.

Any food or medicines that are being delivered to you must be left at the boundary of the quarantine area and you must not come within 2 meters of the person who is delivering the goods. You must not permit any visitors to enter the quarantine area.

In the event of an emergency, dial 999 and notify authorities that you are in quarantine. You must follow the directions given.

In the event of any other issues arising that affect your ability to carry out the quarantine, you must contact health on 54883. You must follow the directions given.

Any person breaching this quarantine order commits an offence carrying a maximum penalty of 12 months’ imprisonment or a $10,000 fine. The police may also detain any person breaching this order and transport them to another facility. That person may also be subject to a further quarantine order.
