New Pharmacy truck for Rarotonga Hospital

This morning at Rarotonga Hospital, Minister of Health Hon Vainetutai Rose Brown on behalf of the Government of the Cook Islands presented to Te Marae Ora a brand-new Pharmacy Truck.

This new truck replaces a 13-year-old truck that had clocked close to 150,000kms which was frequently in need of repairs.

Funding for the much needed vehicle came via the COVID-19 capital budget of $500k that was approved by Parliament in March 2020.  This enabled Te Marae Ora to prioritise the procurement of another oxygen plant, medical equipment, and the pharmacy truck.

The truck will be used to transport Te Marae Ora cargo from the airport and seaport, to Rarotonga Hospital and Tupapa Outpatients, including outward distribution of supplies to the Pa Enua. Cargo commonly includes pharmaceutical supplies, consumables, PPE, medical equipment, accessories etc.

Director Hospital Health Services, Dr Yin Yin May on behalf of Te Marae Ora, expressed her appreciation for the truck, acknowledging the ongoing support by government agencies, the Minister of Health and Cabinet to Te Marae Ora, “We are grateful for the support we receive to help us strengthen our health system and services for our people, meitaki maata”
