This year we celebrate world mental health day 2017 and the theme of –Mental health in the workplace. A negative working environment may lead to physical and mental health problems, harmful use of substances or alcohol, absenteeism and lost productivity.
Ministers endorsed the Healthy Islands monitoring framework and adopted resolutions on: universal health coverage; health information systems; rheumatic heart disease; health workforce development; noncommunicable diseases including childhood obesity; mental health; emerging diseases and disaster preparedness and response; and climate change and health

Health ministers from 20 Pacific island countries and areas convened today in the Cook Islands for the 12th Pacific Health Ministers Meeting. The biennial gathering seeks to reaffirm the importance of the Healthy Islands vision in promoting and protecting the health of the Pacific islands people.
With planning in full swing for the 12th Pacific Health Minister’s Meeting, the team in the Cook Islands thought that it was vital to let our community know of the people involved in this important health event.
From the 28th – 30th August 2017 the Cook Islands will host the Pacific Health Minister’s Biennial Meeting. The Pacific Health Ministers meeting provides an opportunity to develop a consensus view of health in the Pacific and sets future directions for health in the effort to build on this idea of “Healthy Islands”.
In August of this year, the Cook Islands will host the Pacific Health minister’s biennial meeting, and this will be the second Pacific Health Ministers meeting hosted by the Cook Islands, with the first being in 1997 where they adopted the Rarotonga Agreement: Towards Healthy Islands
